Shambles York SN 0398

These 5 pictures are an attempt at showing an approach to a textural finish using acrylic paint. I wanted an old shabby look to the painting. There should have been 6 images but I lost the first one. All it was was a drawing of the Shambles blocked in with Gouache ( my new blocking method) I mixed a solution of modeling paste and heavy structure gel. I applied it to the first picture, laying it on thick and without too much attention to detail.

I let it dry overnight, and then blocked it in with acrylic paint, let that dry. I then added more paint and some cast shadows, and more detail. The final picture I painted in a few people and strengthened the colours where necessary. My impression is, it’s not bad, I think the thicking agent could be used better on a different style of the subject. I have included an image of a little detail. I’m now preparing another painting in this style using Texture paste. I have used texture paste in the past see SN 0147 Staithes Townscapes Galleries.
